Decktec is a new system due to be released in 2018 and Darren from Action Films Australia contracted me to assist on this shoot he is doing for them.
The shoot was based around 2 teams building a project with 2 different systems. A race to the finish line to see which is best.
I'm not sure if I can talk much about it at this stage so I may have to come back and edit this post to include more detail once it's released.
As this was to be captured in real time as it was happening meant a heap of cameras had to be running constantly.
8 Cameras were running placed around the venue with 1 of them being me roaming around on the Gimbal.
I shot on the BlackMagic URSA Mini 4.6K with the DJI Ronin and Easyrig vest.
I power the URSA mini from the ronin battery to save on weight, however for a shoot as long as this means I'd have to keep up with the constant power demands.
Thankfully a local film maker Joel Colthorpe was able to lend me an extra battery from his ronin which made this task a whole lot easier.
During the filming the ronin batteries were rotated on the charger which provided me with just enough to keep going. in future a third battery will have to be added to a similar shoot or a bigger V mount with a power distributor to the ronin.
As the shoot had to be constant I wanted to keep the file size as small as possible so card changes didn't have to be factored in.
The delivery was for 1080p 25fps so I shot in Prores Proxy.
Looking forward to seeing the final edit from Action Australia.
